Ahh ok thats what that was for! I've been experimenting with options on cmdline and I thought that did something else. Sorry, this image is based upon the official RP image though so I took that as an accurate answer. I have been using the official RP image for some time however I've recently been testing a 3rd party image which has attract mode and its virtually identical to the official one. This issue was unrelated to it being 3rd party or not but I can understand your reluctance to help. Thanks anyway, knew it was something simple.

I'm having the same issues currently. Did you ever find a fix for this issue of swapping from HDMI to DVI? If I find anything myself, I'll post back.

@rbaker and @rsimmy ...both methods worked! thanks guys!

So for anybody else who looks at this:

rsimmy's saving to core overrides seems to work for each while @rbaker method works for all...however you can take that script and use it for each core individually if you want to script it in to each one with whatever core you want, which of course takes time. but if you're going to do that, then just do rsimmy's method

      so rbaker method for global
and rsimmy method for each one

and either method sticks after reboot

      @petrockblog
well I am trying to do the ControlBlock, but I thought I had seen somewhere that some people said that by altering things with the powerblock helped with the CB idk
I tried the test from the link you provided, "wget -O - https://raw.githubusercontent.com/petrockblog/PowerBlock/master/install.sh | sudo bash", both with ControlBlock and PowerBlock between petrockblog and master but nothing.
I also couldn't get either of my 2 keyboards(1 RF & 1 USB) that I use to connected to the Pi to type the " | ".
not sure why. I shows it on the keyboard but when shft-| i get the ~ and when I press that key I get the weird symbol that looks like a upside down and mirrored return symbol.
Now that I have started with a fresh install of EVERYTHING using a stock retropie image I still get the same results after installing and updating everything including the CB things

Is there somewhere that I can find someone that already has an image set up and working that I can get a copy of??!! I'm trying to use the CB inside a SNEScase using the OEM led, power switch, and reset button. I've also got new wires connected from the back of the OEM controller inputs to the CB.
I will say that I know the wires that I ran from the control inputs to the CB are good because the remote seem to be working just fine.
Wish I could just copy my image and be done with it but I didn't use a CB on mine because i'm using the 8bito BT remotes. (he isn't that tech savvy, sad i know)

please help!! lol ive only for a few hours until i'm the crappy brother that couldn't finish a birthday gift on time. lol

      @Smilator
The hard drive needs to be powered either by plugging into the wall or using a powered USB hub. There is a PiDrive hard drive that is low powered that might work. I believe it shares the power adapter with the Raspberry Pi. I also see they have an enclosure for the both the hard drive and the Pi in one case.

Another option instead of a hard drive would be to use a large USB flash drive:
      https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Running-ROMs-from-a-USB-drive

I've never tried it but I've read that powered USB hubs can power the Raspberry Pi but I'm not sure if it will be the correct 5V 2.5A (or whatever the Pi 3 needs).

With the correct power adapter to your Pi, you can run the four PS3 controllers via Bluetooth without any issues.

then i can put in it pretty much complete romsets of games (from the NES to the Dreamcast)

I really haven't had many issues with NES, SNES, Gameboy (Color/Advance), Genesis, Sega CD & 32X, Game Gear, TurboGrafx 16/CD but it has been pretty much hit or miss with Dreamcast games. You might check out the Dreamcast Compatibility List:
      https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1AD91IcudqHP7dDmEXLO25Pzb85uUgAy4chU2QxlZBQk/edit#gid=379183179

The games that don't work, you really don't need to have because they are just wasted space (unless in the future there is an update to the emulator that supports that game).

PSX games are more reliable than Dreamcast but I've had issues with some of them as well. I don't know if the PSX has a "Compatibility List" like the Dreamcast.

P.S. making a wood box to 'store' all the components would be a super bad idea, right?

Yeah. Someone on this forum (maybe @obsidianspider) is making a box with arcade buttons & a joystick on top and all the hardware inside and then you just plug it into the TV. Gives you that arcade feel but the box just sits on a coffee table and you get to use your large HDTV! You could even make the box wider and add a 2nd set of arcade buttons/joystick for player 2. The player 3 and 4 can use Bluetooth PS3 controllers.

Sounds like you are using a PS3/4 controller? Try pressing the select button when you launch the game and see if that gets you to the rom settings screen.

I know it is really late now! xD

but i have a complete list of games the will work on the rasp pi 3 listed by emulator
think anyone would post this in the Arcade link on the setup wiki?

Theoretically I would think you could setup Advancemenu or emulationstation and make it into an arcade cab easy if you wanted to.

I am working on making intro videos for NEO-GEO in mng format for andvancemenu as well.

As of 2024, I can confirm that @akafox's method still works.
In our case, we had two generic SNES-like controllers and a third generic PS3-like controller plugged in.
After pressing Select-X to get into the emulator menu:
The first two controllers had many controller type options.
The third controller only had retropad available.

On controller #1, we selected 3 button + 4 way tap.

Then reset the emulation from inside the menu.
      Voila, 3 players.

@kouen922 looks like SD card corruption. Might be worth testing out another micro SD card just to be sure.

Also we can't read minds, if you want to narrow down your issue you need to explicitly detail your setup steps etc detailed in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first

Easiest way I've found is to just take it one step at a time documenting each step to narrow down where exactly things go wrong

      Hello,

      Pi Model: Raspberry Pi 3
      RetroPie Version Used: 4.1
Built From: Pre made SD Image on RetroPie website
      USB Devices connected: PS3 controller + DataTraveler G4 64GB

As I said, right now everything works fine. My roms are on my SD Card.

When I insert my USB with roms in it. It seems to corrupt my retropie... I'm stuck at a terminal command and it shows kernel version, cpu temperature, but no way to get back to usual retropie interface..

      Thanks,
      JP
